In just 18 months, Luke Combs has managed to take three singles to the top of the Country Airplay chart, with his latest hit “She Got The Best of Me” currently sneaking its way up at No. 4. And though his debut album This One’s For You came out in June 2017, it still reigns at No. 1 on Top Country Albums, proving just how much fans love his music.
Though four tracks from the album have been released as singles, one of Combs’ personal favorites is a song called “I Got Away With You.” The lighthearted love song is a classic showcase of Combs’ knack for wordplay, with the country singer using crimes as an analogy for winning the girl of his dreams.
“It’s a crazy truth like I strolled out the gates of Alcatraz/And I walked in the Louvre now the Mona Lisa’s hanging in my house/I bust out of Buckingham with the crown jewels, and I got away with you,” Combs sings on the song’s chorus.
Combs recently filmed an acoustic version of “I Got Away With You,” sneakily paying homage to his clever Louvre line by performing the song alongside pieces of art in Nashville’s Hermitage Hotel. The stripped-down rendition allows Combs’ powerful voice to soar, making his passion for the song truly shine — and likely making girls wish they’re the ones he’s singing about.
“I Got Away With You” is one of the many songs Combs will serenade fans with on his first-ever headlining arena tour next year, kicking off in Birmingham, Alabama on Jan. 31 and ending in Morrison, Colorado on May 12. Titled the Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour, Combs — who is nominated for two CMAs this year — has already sold out 26 of the trek’s 28 dates.
