Luke Combs‘ new single “Beer Never Broke My Heart” was officially released to radio on Wednesday morning (May 8). Shortly after came a comedic music video for the song.
The anthemic track has the singer belting about life’s many heartaches. Unsurprisingly, the one constant he can always rely on to not drag his heart through the mud is beer.
The nearly four-minute clip brings the lyrics vividly to life as Combs sings, “I’ve had a largemouth bass bust my line/ A couple of beautiful girls tell me goodbye/ Trucks break down, dogs run off/ Politicians lie, been fired by the boss.”
The opening scene shows Combs playing to a nearly empty bar as a guy downtown gets his heart broken during a failed proposal. One man is later spotted putting up fliers after losing his dog while another sinks into a couch after being fired. On the field, a football player misses a game-winning field goal. While each is a different heartbreak, they all find common ground at the bar with a beer in hand as Combs and his band perform the infectious tune.
“Longneck ice-cold beer never broke my heart/ Like diamond rings and football teams have torn this boy apart/ Like a neon dream it just don’t know me, the bars and this guitar/ Longneck ice-cold beer never broke my heart,” he sings on the chorus.
Combs’ current tour borrows its name from his latest single. “Beer Never Broke My Heart” follows the success of Combs’ previous five singles, all of which topped the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
