Animal rights organization PETA has fired off an angry letter to country superstar Luke Bryan after the “Light It Up” singer posted a video over the holidays of the surprise gifts he gave his wife for Christmas: a pair of baby kangaroos.
“Baby kangaroos belong in their mothers’ pouches, not in gift bags,” wrote PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien after a video surfaced of Bryan handing a bag filled with two adorable kangaroos to his wife on Christmas morning. “These joeys have complex needs, including specialized diets and room to roam — they are not toys and will only become more difficult to care for as they grow older. PETA is calling for an investigation into where these kangaroos came from and stands ready to help Luke Bryan right this wrong and move these vulnerable marsupials to a reputable sanctuary.”
A spokesperson for Bryan had not returned requests for comment at press time. The two kangaroos, Todd and Margo (aka 2 Live Roo and Roo Tang Clan), are the latest additions to the family’s Brett’s Bam project, which coordinates with local charities to bring children out to interact with rescue animals on the couple’s Tennessee property as a tribute to their late niece, Sadie Brett, who died in early 2017.
