LeAnn Rimes returns next week with a new single, “The Story,” her first release on RCA-UK.
“The Story” was written by Phil Hanseroth and a version of the song served as the title track for a 2007 album from Brandi Carlile. “The Story” starts out as a plaintive ballad: “All of these lines across my face/ Tell you the story of who I am/ So many stories of where I’ve been/ And how I got to where I am/ But these stories don’t mean anything/ When you’ve got no one to tell them to.” But as the track progresses, it adds a firm backbeat and muscular guitars, and Carlile’s singing becomes increasingly fiery.
In a statement, Rimes described feeling a strong connection with the track, which will drop in the UK on June 24, with global release plans to be announced soon. “I fully embrace the journey I am on and have a deeper understanding of how every piece of my story serves a purpose in my evolution as a woman and an artist,” the singer said. “This song is not only a love song but a song of self-acceptance and appreciation for life.”
After more than two decades and 44 million albums sold on Nashville’s Curb Records, Rimes, 33, also praised her new label, noting, “I am elated to have Colin (Barlow) and the family at RCA UK by my side, as we share the same vision and passion for the future. Being surrounded by fantastic, forward thinking collaborators, I’ve never felt so comfortable and supported in my artistry. I feel like I found a true home.” The new single will appear on Grammy winner Rimes’ upcoming 16th studio album, whose release date has not yet been announced.
Rimes’ last full-length album of originals, Spitfire, came out in 2013. She released a Christmas album in 2015.
