More than 30 years ago, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton released their hit duet “Islands in the Stream,” and on Tuesday, they announced they’ll perform live together one last time as part of Rogers’ Farewell Tour on Oct. 25 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
The end of Kenny’s career will be celebrated by numerous guest performers taking the stage with him, but it is his dear friend Dolly who will be the star of the Nashville show. Parton and Rogers sang many duets together, but “Islands in the Stream” is their true classic.
Named after a Hemingway novel, the song was first released in 1983 as part of Rogers’ album Eyes That See in the Dark. The song made it all the way to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, while also topping the Hot Country Songs and Adult Contemporary charts. It’s also No. 2 on Billboard‘s Greatest of All Time Country Songs.
