Kane Brown has been singing since he was a small child, but it wasn’t until a series of viral YouTube covers that the young country artist was able to step out of the shadows and into the limelight. After crowdfunding a six-song EP in 2014, signing with RCA in early 2016, Brown landed an opening spot on Florida Georgia Line’s Dig Your Roots Tour.
Following a show in Silicon Valley, Brown checked in to the Hollywood Patch House for some R&R before continuing on to Phoenix – and he was set on making his time count. With his sights set on a true California experience, Brown grabbed his skateboard and hacky sack and headed to Venice Beach.
“I enjoy life on the road, [but] you pretty much do the same thing every single day unless you’re in the city,” Brown explains. “This is my first time hanging out in Venice Beach and there’s a lot to do here: You can skateboard, hang out at the beach. We’re just having a good time.”
These rare moments of fun on the road are a welcome change for the Georgia native, but the scenery is a major upgrade as well. “I’ve never really been outside of Georgia – it’s a lot different,” he says.
After hitting the skate park and exploring the bustling beach community, Brown returned to the Patch House to shoot some pool, screen his new music video and discuss the road to success and the future of his career.
“My album, I think, is very me,” Brown describes. “It’s pretty much a lot about my life. There’s some old school country on there, but it’s mixed with kind of a new school. I feel like there’s on song on there for everybody.
“I feel accomplished, but I’m still working and trying to get farther than I’m at today. Everybody asks me if I get excited – and I am excited – I’m just not where I want to be yet.”
