While she was celebrating her big wins at the 61st annual Grammy Awards, country superstar Kacey Musgraves also showed a lot of love to her fans by sharing a brand-new music video for her emotional ballad “Rainbow.”
The song, which Musgraves sang during the awards ceremony on Sunday night, illustrates the singer reaching out to someone going through a hard time, as she encourages them to let go of their troubles. The video follows suit, showing Musgraves as an ever-present figure, coming to various different individuals in their time of need. “Tie up the boat, take off your coat, and take a look around/ Everything is all right now,” she sings.
The video features multiple individuals going through various different troubles, including a young queer teenager. While Musgraves has said repeatedly that the song is intended for anyone going through a difficult time, she recently told Taste of Country that she hopes the song also serves as an anthem for her LGBTQ fans. “I feel a kinship and a friendship with that community,” she said. “They really opened my eyes up to a lot of different things that I wasn’t aware of growing up in a small town in Texas. I will always be an ally and a strong supporter.”
Musgraves’ new video is only further underscored by her victory at this year’s Grammys — the star walked away with the evening’s top prize, album of the year, for her fourth studio album Golden Hour, along with raking in prizes for best country album, best country song (“Space Cowboy”) and best country solo performance (“Butterflies”).
