Kacey Musgraves has been flying high with her stellar third studio album, Golden Hour, and now the country songstress is spreading her wings even further by way of the new video for “Butterflies,” released Friday (May 4).
The visual remains fairly dark and ominous, but Musgraves is joyous in love in the lighthearted tune. Her characteristic whimsy radiates as she stands alone in a mellow bar or strolls through empty nighttime streets with dazzling specks of light surrounding her. Intermittent clips are shown symbolizing some of love’s sweetest moments, and although the song’s subject remains faceless, viewers are guaranteed to feel dizzy with infatuation too. The “Butterflies” clip also sneaks in an appropriate nod to its predecessor from Monday, “Space Cowboy.” Cloud nine evidently wasn’t so far out of reach, after all.
Musgraves is wrapping up her supporting role for Little Big Town before joining Harry Styles on tour and then will finally embark on her own headlining Oh, What a World Tour later this year.
