Hot on the heels of his barroom breakup song “Bottle In My Hand,” rising country singer Gethen Jenkins heads to the Gibson Guitar Showroom to record a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.”
Jenkins’ version of the Southern rock staple is a stripped-down, emotionally resonant affair, with his voice conveying the gruff sincerity of the Skynyrd classic. “‘Simple Man’ is one of my all-time favorite tunes and Lynyrd Skynyrd is a band I idolized growing up,” Jenkins says of his choice to tackle the tune.
A former U.S. Marine who served a tour of duty in Iraq, Jenkins is aiming to release his debut full-length, helmed by producer Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White), in 2019.
“Two things I’m very proud about, and two things that I’ve done; the singing and delivering songs, and then serving my country,” he told Billboard earlier this year. “I get inspired by people and places and beauty, things that move me. That’s what usually inspires me to write something about it.”
