Garth Brooks has been crowned the king of Forbes’ annual “Country Cash Kings” list, following the icon’s first tour in over a decade. According to their calculations, Brooks has earned $90 million since last June, a record tally for a country act.
Brooks did those kinds of numbers by basically squeezing two tours into one, by way of adding numerous matinee performances during select dates around the country. It’s a common tactic for family-oriented acts, but somewhat rare for a blockbuster artist like Brooks. “If you add in 100 shows that didn’t exist,” one agent told Billboard last year, “all of a sudden here’s an extra $100 million on matinees alone.”?
Following Brooks on the list is fellow veteran Toby Keith with $53 million earned in the last year (that’s a lot of red solo cups). Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan and Kenny Chesney round out the top five, respectively, with $43.5, $42.5 and $42 million.
Further down the list at No. 9 is a notable tie between exes Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton, who according to Forbes, each earned $28.5 million each. Lambert is also the lone solo female on the tally, though Lady Antebellum (No. 15) lead singer Hillary Scott and Brooks’ wife and tour mate Trish Yearwood deserve major kudos as well.
The magazine calculated its Country Cash Kings list by looking at an artist’s entire income (touring, merch, music sales, publishing, branding, etc) between June 2014 to June 2015.
