And baby makes three! On Sunday (Aug. 16), Gabby Barrett and Cade Foehner announced the happy news that they’re expecting their first child together.
“We are very excited,” Barrett gushed to People about her pregnancy. “The Lord has blessed us with a little one, and we’re really excited to finally be able to share the news with everybody and just have a big old family celebration about it.
“We were in Texas visiting Cade’s side of his family. And it’s funny, because I did not think that I was [pregnant],” the country star added, revealing she’ll be giving birth to a girl. Around lunchtime, I remember taking the test and my eyes nearly crossed! I was like, ‘Wait, is that two lines?’ I came running out to Cade and was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, I think I am.’ That’s all that I said, and he knew what that meant. I started crying, and it was very sweet.”
While Barrett is due sometime early next year, the couple have been keeping the joyous secret since they first found out in May. For his part, Foehner is thrilled to be welcoming a daughter. “I get to have two Gabbys!” he declared. “One’s not enough.”
“One is enough,” his wife amusingly clarified during the interview. “We were really excited whether it was a boy or a girl. I always wanted a girl growing up, as well as a boy, so to have a girl first is just really exciting. I hope she gets his hair — definitely not mine.”
The American Idol alums — who married in Oct. 2019 — first met on Season 16 of the long-running competition show, where Barrett placed third and Foehner came in fourth behind eventual winner Maddie Poppe and runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson. Back in June, Barrett earned her first No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart with debut single “I Hope,” a record 64 weeks after the track was released.
