Florida Georgia Line had the biggest hit of their career this year with the ridiculously catchy tune “Meant to Be.” But even though the duo has been getting spins on pop radio with the Bebe Rexha-assisted smash, in 2019, they want to remind everyone of their Southern roots with their new album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country.
The LP marks FGL’s fourth and the much-anticipated follow-up to 2016’s Top Country Albums No. 1 Dig Your Roots. Due Feb. 15 on BMLG Records, the album is meant to make the exact statement its bold title does.
“You can say a lot of things. You can call somebody a lot of different names and have a lot of different opinions, but at the end of the day, when it comes to me and Tyler, you can’t say we ain’t country,” Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelley explained to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s just a fun way of doing it through song. It was cool to name the tour that. Name the album that. And [it’s] just kind of a new era.”
The guys have teased Can’t Say I Ain’t Country with four songs so far, kicking things off with the lighthearted lead single “Simple” this summer. While guitar-heavy “Colorado” puts their twangy style at the forefront most, the country isn’t completely lost on the other releases, with the sultry slow jam “Talk You Out of It” and wavy feel-good track “Sittin’ Pretty” introducing a fresher vibe to FGL’s catalog. The rest of the album’s track list has yet to be unveiled.
“Meant to Be” earned Florida Georgia Line their first Grammy nomination, up for best country duo/group performance. The song also held the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart for a record-setting 50 total weeks — helping the sentiment of their Can’t Say I Ain’t Country album title ring true.
More information on the album can be found on Florida Georgia Line’s website in the coming weeks.
