Below, listen to some of country music’s newest tunes and videos of the week.
Carly Pearce, “It Won’t Always Be Like This”
On the reflective “It Won’t Always Be Like This,” Pearce looks back on several special moments and places within her life that she wishes she could hold onto. Those memories include a wave from her grandfather from the front porch, being an impatient 22-year-old waiting for her dreams to come true, and the early stages of a new relationship. With whispered vocals and a captivating storyline, Pearce delivers on the soaring piano ballad.
Dozzi, Worth the Wait
Australian trio Dozzi are introducing themselves to the country scene in America with five-song EP Worth the Wait. The siblings’ impeccable harmonies stand out as heard on the poignant title track, heartfelt piano ballad “Red Eye,” and feel-good EDM-infused “Fools.” Blending elements of pop, country and EDM, sisters Jesse, Nina and Andrea Dozzi leave their mark on listeners.
Eli Young Band, “Break It In”
Eli Young Band strike a chord on the reflective “Break It In,” a song about all the things in life that need a little breaking in: baseball gloves, a new guitar, boots. A touching ballad, EYB tug on the heartstrings with the music video for the song that serves as a time capsule to the band’s career. With photos and video clips dating back to its college days to the present as the band receives plaques for successful singles, awards show speeches and No. 1 parties, the band also include images of its family and kids.
Hailey Whitters, “Heartland”
Whitters returned to her home state of Iowa to film the autobiographical “Heartland” music video. Directed by fashion and music photographer Harper Smith, also an Iowa native, Whitters takes things back to where it all started in her hometown dreaming of a career in music. With footage from spots she frequented, venues she played and local farms, Whitters takes listeners to where she grew up on the enchanting video.
“Despite being nine hours away, I still have a strong connection to the Heartland where I was born and raised,” she says. “You can hear it throughout my music, and I wanted to bring listeners home with me to see and experience it firsthand.”
Kaleb Lee, “I Dream in Southern” feat. Kelly Clarkson
Kaleb Lee enlisted the help of his coach on The Voice for the infectious ode to the South, “I Dream in Southern.” A vivid lyric that paints the best things the South has to offer (“blue jeans, back porches, cotton fields, mason jars, fireflies”), alongside Lee and Clarkson’s mesmerizing harmonies, “I Dream In Southern” was written by country hitmakers Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne and Brandy Clark.
“’I Dream In Southern’ is such a great song written by a powerhouse team,” says Lee. “It’s just icing on the cake for Kelly to sing on it.”
