Country’s biggest power couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw hung out with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show on Thursday (Nov. 16) and dished on plenty of adorable personal stories, before sticking around for a fun game with the host.
First things first: Fallon wanted to know about the first time the two met. McGraw sets the scene — it was 1994, he had a mullet, and the two were at a Country Radio Seminar. He admits it was love at first sight, “I looked at her and was smitten right away.” Fallon asks if the feeling was mutual, to which McGraw quipped, “I put in a lot of time, are you kidding me?”
Fast forward, and the couple has three beautiful daughters. McGraw then tells the story of meeting the date of one of his daughters after allowing her to see the boy without meeting him first. “We put our secret service guys on it,” he joked. In a tale that diverges from the stereotypical overprotective father trope, McGraw terrified her date on the following day completely by accident. The singer was prepping meat for dinner, which isn’t exactly a neat task. When he went to the door to greet the boy, who he’d forgotten was coming over, he painted the picture by saying, “I’ve got a knife in my hand and a bloody apron on, and it worked out really well.”
Hill begins to talk about hitting the road after ten years, a long span of time during which she’s just been “hanging out.” She explains that it’s been exciting to get back out performing with her husband, who she refers to as “one of the greatest performers in the business of music, period,” which made it all the more easy to get back out there after such a long performing hiatus. The album they recorded together after 21 years of marriage only made sense as they made their way back on tour together, which McGraw called “maybe the only album we ever do together.”
The couple then stuck around for a quick game of “Search Party,” during which they were quickly yelled at for “fraternizing” as they attempted to greet each other. The first topic of the Family Feud– type game was, “Why do country singers always sing about _____?” which the players had to guess the word that would fill in the blank in most popular internet searches. The question moved to “Why do dogs _____?” and “How do I get more _____?”
