When Jack White‘s Third Man Records ventured into ’70s country revivalism earlier this year by releasing Margo Price’s Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, the payoff was immediate: The album made history. Never before had a female soloist debuted in the top 10 on the Top Country Albums chart without ever having a release appear on the Hot Country Songs chart.
On Wednesday (June 1), Third Man announced a partnership with another scrappy country singer: Dwight Yoakam, who first stormed his genre’s charts in 1986. Yoakam cut a single for Third Man as part of the Blue Series, putting his own spin on “Tomorrow’s Gonna Be Another Day” — the best-known rendition was recorded by The Monkees — and “High on the Mountain of Love,” a version of which appeared on The Beach Boys’ 1965 album Beach Boys’ Party! White served as producer on both tracks.
