Darius Rucker made his return to the Faster Horses music festival on Saturday (July 22), playing hits like “Radio,” “Come Back Song,” and his most recent Country Airplay No. 1 “If I Told You.” Much to the delight of the crowd, the 51-year-old singer also threw in classics from his former band Hootie & the Blowfish, and even a cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity.”
As his set proved, Rucker has a versatile voice that he’s utilized over his 30-year career. So when Rucker chatted with Billboard prior to his set, we couldn’t help wondering if he plans to try out any other genres in the future.
“I’m pretty sure I’m gonna stick with country until I ride off in the sunset,” he told Billboard backstage. “I really love it, I’m having a blast.”
Aside from all of his musical endeavors, Rucker has also flexed his acting muscles as well, making appearances in Adam Sandler’s Netflix series Sandy Wexler, Hawaii Five-0 and also providing voice-overs for a few animated shows. But while he’s been able to seamlessly transition from stage to screen, he champions a fellow musician for doing that best.
“Ice Cube is doing so great,” Rucker said. “He went from being this hardcore gangster rapper to this actor now. He’s doing children’s movies and all this stuff — he’s rocking it.”
