Since winning season 4 of The Voice nearly five years ago, Danielle Bradbery has established a full-on country career that has sent her all around the country and even overseas. But even though she’s doing what she loves, the 21-year-old Cypress, Texas, native can’t help getting a little homesick sometimes.
“I miss everything about Texas,” Bradbery tells Billboard. “I miss home constantly. I miss my family — and I miss Whataburger so bad!”
Bradbery released her sophomore album, I Don’t Believe We’ve Met, in December, her first since the debut self-titled LP she released shortly after her Voice victory. The “Sway” singer previously talked to Billboard about how much she feels she’s grown from the first album to her second and said the last year she’s had with creating and releasing the album has given her a lot more confidence.
“I sound cliche, but seriously — I think I learned to speak up for myself more,” she says. “Speaking up and being a bigger person, being more confident. Hopefully it’ll continue to grow.”
While Bradbery may be a country gal, she reveals that she’s also a huge SZA fan by singing a snippet from the rising R&B star’s “Broken Clocks.” No matter what other genres she’s a fan of, Bradbery will be keeping it country this weekend, as she’s headed to Vegas for the Academy of Country Music Awards. She expressed her excitement for the show with a makeup-free selfie Thursday (April 12).
Ahead of the ACMs, watch Bradbery talk Texas and sing SZA above. Catch the ACM Awards when they broadcast live from Las Vegas on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
