The duo, comprised of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, performed alongside a full band atop a mostly-bare stage, allowing a dazzling light show to do most of the talking. The lights later turned a dramatic red hue during the bridge, and then Mooney’s piano actually appeared to catch on fire.
“We knew it was really special — we were really proud of this song,” the duo previously told Billboard of the song. “Sometimes a piano ballad is a little risky to put out as a radio single, but we put [“Tequila”] out, and immediately we could feel the reaction was, like, so elevated…the song has taken our career to new heights. It’s cool that we trusted our gut on that one.”
