As the nominees for the 2017 CMT Music Awards are being unveiled Tuesday (May 9), Billboard has the exclusive scoop on one of the newer categories: social superstar.
Among this year’s nominees for the social media-fueled category are Keith Urban, Jake Owen, Kelsea Ballerini, Thomas Rhett, Brett Eldredge and Lauren Alaina. The award, which was just introduced as a category last year, is designed to honor the country star who is using his or her social account in the best or most creative ways to reach their fans. (Blake Shelton was the award’s inaugural winner in 2016.)
Social superstar is one of the many categories being announced Tuesday, including male and female video of the year, CMT performance of the year, and video of the year. Social superstar nominee Eldredge himself will be assisting with announcements on the Today show with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.
In line with the announcement of artists up for the social superstar award, the folks at CMT picked out a social media post from each nominee that they felt best showed their personalities. Take a look at those posts below, and see who you think deserves this year’s award:
