“The Git Up” singer Blanco Brown was seriously injured in a head-on car crash on Monday night (Aug. 31) near his home in Atlanta and is currently recuperating in an ICU.
According to a statement from his label, Brown suffered “significant injuries” in the accident and was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent a 12-hour surgery to address his injuries.
At press time, Brown (ne Bennie Amey III) was facing additional surgeries, and remains in the intensive care unit.
Update: An Atlanta Police Department representative has confirmed to Billboard that Brown “sustained serious injuries” and was transported “to the hospital in serious condition.” Brown also “appeared to have collided head-on” with the second vehicle, whose driver told police that he “observed what appeared to be motorcycle headlights in his lane of travel.” An investigation surrounding the circumstances of the accident is underway. The police spokesperson said that Brown was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident.
“The Git Up” spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 2019, and No. 14 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. Brown most recently charted on the Hot Country Songs list with “Just the Way,” a collaboration with Parmalee, which reached No. 31 in April.
