Update (May 22, 2020): The cover is now available to stream everywhere. Check it out below.
Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness put his own spin on Kacey Musgraves’ country song “Slow Burn,” out today (June 21) via Amazon Music.
The enchanting cover includes striking piano accompaniment and pulsating beats alongside McMahon’s haunting vocals.
Produced by Butch Walker (Fall Out Boy, Weezer), McMahon’s version of “Slow Burn” transforms the country favorite to a dreamy and atmospheric musical opus. Well known in the alternative and rock worlds, the former Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate frontman channels his country cred with a soaring reinterpreted version of Musgraves’ already stunning original.
“I was late to the Kacey Musgraves party, but when I got there I became a super fan,” McMahon said in a statement. “Golden Hour has been a staple in my home and everywhere else I listen to music since my wife and daughter introduced me to it last year.”
He added, “I’d cover the whole album if I could, but ‘Slow Burn’ felt most like the song I could bring something unique to. It doesn’t hurt to have Butch Walker behind the console when attempting something some might see as sacrilege. It’s a beautiful song and we had fun taking some chances with the production.”
Next, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness will perform at Firefly Festival in Dover, DE on Saturday (June 22).
