Nashville-based singer-songwriter Anderson East sat down with Billboard as part of the “You Should Know” video series to give fans insight into the inspiration behind his latest track and to reveal a few more interesting facts about himself.
The musician, who grew up in Athens, Alabama, shares that while his first job was working at a Sam Goody record store, his dream job growing up was “to not have a job.”
East began making music when he was around the age of 12 or 13, and the first place he ever performed was at his middle school talent show, where he played “Free Bird.” “It was a great idea,” he says. “We didn’t win though.”
The “King for a Day” singer also discusses the inspiration behind the song, explaining that is it about “just being willing to go down a romantic path that you’re not really sure the outcome and being willing to keep going for it.”
In the video, which you can watch above, East also reveals what his favorite track off his forthcoming album Encore is, what his one wish would be for a genie to grant and which one word he would use to describe his music.
