
When Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” was released earlier this year, some wondered whether the provocative song would fit into conservative country radio. Well, it fit in and then some, owning the country charts and winning song of the year at the 2015 CMA Awards.

The song got another twist on Wednesday night’s CMT Artists of the Year event with a cover by Adam Lambert and Leona Lewis. The midtempo song got a boost of pop bombast from the singers, who both got their starts on Simon Cowell-helmed singing shows: Lambert on American Idol and Lewis on The X Factor U.K.

The performance was part of a tribute to Little Big Town, who were honored as Artists of the Year along with Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Sam Hunt. The show also named Kenny Rogers its Artist of a Lifetime and Chris Stapleton earned the CMT Artists of the Year Breakout Award.
