Welcome back to Takeover Tuesday, where each week, Billboard taps chart-topping artists and tastemakers to compile their very own playlist exclusive to Billboard’s Spotify account. We give the artists free rein to base the list on whatever subject they choose. The only rule? Make it as creative and unique to them as possible.
Abby Anderson is making waves in country music this year. The 21-year-old Texas native was named as one of CMT’s 2018 Next Women of Country class, and released her debut EP I’m Good on Sept. 7. What’s more, Anderson has already opened for country stars like Kelsea Ballerini, Walker Hayes and Billy Currington, most recently performing on the fall leg of Brett Eldredge’s The Long Way Tour.
As Anderson gears up to perform at country music festivals like Stagecoach and Country Thunder next spring, the rising star shared her playlist of feel-good songs that also influence the upbeat mood of the music she creates. The genre-spanning playlist includes tracks from Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars and Dolly Parton, as well as her own empowering hit “Make Him Wait.” From iconic female anthems like Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much” to Gloria Gaynor’s belt-worthy “I Will Survive,” the songs on Anderson’s playlist exude a happy confidence that listeners won’t be able to resist dancing to.
“This is a playlist that mirrors the vibe of my EP I’m Good,” Anderson tells Billboard. “They are happy, confident, sassy and songs that make me dance and just feel good. Songs I turn to when I’m having a bad day, need a pick-me up or just want to jam. They are the kind of songs that make me feel the way I hope my music makes people feel now and in the future.”
