While Beyoncé‘s transfixing Grammys performance Sunday night (Feb. 12) was a celebration of her newly revealed pregnancy, Vanessa Williams tweeted that the music industry hasn’t always been so welcoming to moms-to-be.
“They never showed my pregnant belly when I sang my nominated ‘Save the Best for Last,'” Williams tweeted following Bey’s set. “Oh how times have changed! Kudos Beyoncé!”
That was at the 1993 ceremony, when she lost in the song and record of the year categories to Eric Clapton‘s “Tears in Heaven.”

Williams was almost eight months pregnant when she performed at the February 1993 show. In addition to wearing a flowy black dress that doesn’t show off her baby bump, the camera also favors close-up shots of the singer (though you can’t blame them for lingering on the onetime Miss America’s face).
