While there are artists with higher profiles performing at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 8), Tate McRae left one of the most lasting impressions of the ceremony, splashing around a water-logged stage during her performance of “You Broke Me First.”
Dimly lit and striding forward alone before being surrounded by facemask-clad dancers, McRae was able to deliver lock-step dance moves while capturing the vulnerability of “You Broke Me First.” The technical achievement of the performance was certainly the water-filled staging, which accentuated the dance moves of all involved — while also, fortunately, avoiding any slip-and-fall accidents.
“You Broke Me First” has proven to be the breakthrough for the 17-year-old Calgary native, with the song recently reaching No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. McRae was nominated for Best Push at the EMAs, although Yungblud ended up taking home the new-artist trophy.
