After Elton John and Bernie Taupin won a Golden Globe for best original song for “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” at the 2020 Golden Globes, Rocketman star Taron Egerton walked away with the award for best performance by an actor in a motion picture — musical or comedy.
“I’m so honored to be nominated alongside legitimate icons and also Roman [Griffin Davis], who is an incredible kid,” Egerton, who beat out stiff competition (Eddie Murphy, Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Craig and Roman Griffin Davis) for the award.
Naturally, Egerton thanked Elton for allowing him the honor of portraying him onscreen. “To Elton John — thank you for the music, for living a life less ordinary and for being my friend,” Egerton said.
