Shawn Mendes‘ third studio album will be here in less than a week, and the 19-year old star revved up anticipation with a performance of its riveting lead single at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.
“In My Blood” is a somber, heartfelt track for Mendes (about his battle with anxiety) and his stage show reflected that. The lights were dimmed, with a bed of light-up flowers illuminating the stage around Mendes and his backing band. Playing guitar alongside his gripping vocals, Mendes delivered the mid-tempo rock ballad to the Las Vegas crowd.
Despite the weighty subject matter, the audience latched onto positive vibes — especially Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello, both of whom the cameras caught dancing along.
Mendes released “In My Blood” back on March 22 as the first sampling of his forthcoming self-titled album. It currently sits at No. 27 on the Hot 100 and No. 10 on Pop Songs.
