Shania Twain spoke with Billboard on the red carpet at the 2020 Grammy Awards, discussing what she loves most about her Las Vegas residency, which other artists she’s seen live while in Vegas, and what she thought of Halsey channeling some of her looks in her latest music video.
Asked what is most different about doing a residency in Vegas versus playing other live shows, Twain tells Billboard that by doing a residency, she gets the best technology, lighting, sound, and consistency. She also greatly appreciates the community and has been making friends with other artists, calling the city her “happy place.”
Twain also reveals that while she’s been in Vegas, she’s had the opportunity to catch other musicians’ residencies, including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and the Backstreet Boys. “Honestly, you need at least a month in Vegas to really catch up on everything that’s the latest on the stages,” she notes.
In the interview, Twain is also asked about Halsey’s latest music video for “You Should Be Sad,” which channels some of Twain’s iconic fashion looks. Asked how she feels about the nod, the singer replies that she was very flattered when she first saw it.
“It made me all warm and fuzzy and I was just very flattered and excited to know that I’m on the minds of the young artists coming up who appreciated what I was doing at the time with fashion and being beautiful and sexy without compromising integrity, which is what I really stood for,” she states. “So I’m glad that she embraced it, it was just flattering.
