Shania Twain caught up with Billboard’s Tetris Kelly on the red carpet at the 2019 American Music Awards on Sunday (Nov. 24), chatting about her new Las Vegas residency and why she loves to mix musical genres.
Before discussing her new Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, Twain is asked about a recent Instagram post she shared, which featured a picture of her on a horse, along with a caption that said Vegas is full of secrets and she just learned about another one. It also told fans to “stay tuned,” along with the date “1/26/20.” Asked what that secret is, Twain simply replies, “Oh my gosh, well, the secret is, purple…just think purple.”
What she can discuss, though, is what to expect from her new Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood’s Zappos room. “It’s a very party, rock-and-roll room, so I’m gonna be putting on a very high energy,” Twain reveals.
“It’s an informal environment. It’s a kickass, have-fun, rock on type of show. So that’s why…I call it Let’s Go, because that’s what it is. It’s like, let’s go. It’s not just ‘let’s go girls,’ it’s just let’s go overall…I’m so ready. I’m bringing people up on the stage. I’m organized.”
In the interview, Twain is also asked to share her thoughts on artists like Taylor Swift and Kelsea Ballerini shifting from country to pop music, and whether or not she sees that as a natural progression.
“For me, it is, just because I grew up with such a hybrid of influences from rock to country to soul, from soul to folk, bluegrass,” she says. “I could never really make up my mind about where I wanted to sit musically. But because I’m a songwriter, I just don’t think I need to sit anywhere specific. I just need to write great songs, and then the music comes later. The music is the second part. But the songwriting is everything at the root. So I think anything goes when you are just a creative songwriter.”
