Backstage at Billboard Women in Music, we asked the stars of the night how they felt about the #metoo movement. Here is what they said.
Among the many incredible statements the singer shared during the 2017 Billboard Women in Music event, Woman of the Year Selena Gomez shared a warm message to the women of the #MeToo movement, and women everywhere who are struggling in this trying time.
“I just want to say to all the beautiful women out there,” Gomez stated, “that I have never been more proud to be a woman today in this industry and this year. I hope that this moment can encourage all women that they know it’s safe to say what you want to say and what you need to say, and there’s such freedom in that.”
Gomez added that women who have been raising their voices are helping to better reality for so many others, “including myself and young girls; my four year old sister.”
While accepting the honor of Woman of the Year, Gomez had also called back to the women who paved the way for her, saying, “I’m so grateful for the older women who have lifted all of us up.”
