Although the 2020 prize went to Alejandro Sanz’s #ElDisco, Yatra described the entire experience as “insane.”
“Especially seeing the other names on the ballot,” he told Billboard on the carpet. “[Luis] Fonsi, Ricardo Montaner, Maluma, Alejandro Sanz — I’ve been admiring them for so long, and being the youngest in this category is pretty crazy for me. Not a lot of stress, really. Just excited to be here enjoying the Grammys for the first time. I wanna meet all the artists. Get a feel for the American industry and since I grew up in the United States, it’s like feeling at home, really.”
The Colombian singer, who recently teamed up with Korean pop group Monsta X for “Magnetic,” talked about some of the challenges they faced. “We barely understood each other, ’cause it was tough,” he said. “With them, my English wasn’t so good, and their English with me wasn’t so good at the moment, but we had a lot of cool chemistry. And they’re really easygoing guys.”
“I’m doing some ballads in English this year, so I’m probably gonna release them at some point, so it would be awesome to sing, for example, with Halsey. I sang with her at the Latin Grammy’s two years back. We did ‘Without Me’ and we also did a song of mine called ‘No Hay Nadie Mas,’ so it would be cool to get on a song with her.”
