Sam Hunt won new artist of the year at Sunday’s American Music Awards, but told Billboard that he still hasn’t “had time to really sit down and appreciate it and smell the roses.”

“I didn’t realize the magnitude of all these little pieces that were adding up,” said the Georgia native and MCA Nashville recording star, who had three straight No. 1 records this year off his debut album, Montevallo. “Fortunately the first record has done well enough that I think I’ll have an opportunity to do a second one!”
Hunt pounced on an opportunity to gush over the ceremony’s host, Jennifer Lopez, when asked how he thought she was handling her duties as master of ceremonies.
“She won me over off the bat with that performance in the beginning and I’ve not been able to take my eyes off the stage,” he declared.
