Rosalía brought flamenco to the stage of the 2020 Grammy Awards and showed the crowd gathered at Los Angeles’ Staples Center exactly why she deserved her win at this year’s ceremony.
On Sunday night (Jan. 26), Alicia Keys introduced her as the “Spanish sensation waking up the world,” and Rosalía proceeded to warm up with the flamenco strains of “Juro Qué,” one of her two first singles of 2020.
In a white fringed body suit she paired with sky-high platform sneakers, her diamond encrusted nails flashed as she twirled her hands, stomped and flexed through a traditional flamenco routine with pops of hip-hop and modern movement worked in.
From there, the shadows gave way to bright red as her scarlet-clad dancers joined her for “Malamente,” the lead single off her 2018 breakthrough (and Grammy-winning album) El Mal Querer.
Rosalía won her first Grammy award earlier this evening in the best Latin rock, urban or alternative album category for El Mal Querer. She’s also nominated for best new artist.
