The American Music Awards suffered a ratings decline Tuesday (Oct. 9), falling significantly versus the 2017 show.
ABC’s broadcast of the AMAs tied for the lead among adults 18-49 in primetime with a 1.8 rating, but that was down 25 percent from the 2.4 for the 2017 show (the 2018 awards were staged a month earlier than in the past 15 years). The AMAs also fell about 28 percent in viewers to 6.55 million, versus 9.15 million in 2017.
The CW kicked off its season Tuesday with The Flash and Black Lightning, both of which came in lower than their premieres last season — though they were close to where they ended 2017-18. The Flash‘s 0.8 was off 27 percent from its premiere last season but even with both the season four finale and its 2017-18 average. Black Lightning (0.4), meanwhile, mustered just half its series premiere rating in January but was close to the 0.5 for its season finale.
This Is Us (2.3) kept its status as Tuesday’s top show among adults 18-49, though it was off a tick week to week. So was lead-out New Amsterdam (1.4), while The Voice held at 1.8 for NBC.
