The Academy Awards are right around the corner, and along with celebrating accolades in film, the ceremony is full of incredible movie music moments.
From the customary best original song presentations, to a number of “special” unknown performances, this year’s Oscars is not one to be missed. See below for a list of music moments to watch out for at the Oscars, and tune in to the 92nd annual ceremony on Sunday (Feb. 9), which airs live from the Dolby Theatre ini Hollywood at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on ABC.
Billie Eilish’s Special Appearance
Two weeks after she swept the Grammy awards, Billie Eilish will be taking the stage at the Oscars. What she’ll perform remains unknown, but fans are hoping to hear her title track for the upcoming James Bond movie, No Time to Die.
Idina Menzel Performance
Menzel won’t be performing “Into the Unknown” alone this Sunday. In honor of Frozen II, she will be joined by nine women around the world who played Elsa when the film was dubbed into various languages.
Elton John Performance
John’s “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” will be performed sans his Rocketman Elton, Taron Egerton. We can, however, expect an amazing outfit and performance from John.
Cynthia Erivo Performance
The actress will deliver how powerful nominated song, “Stand Up” from her Harriet film. She’s also up for best actress.
Janelle Monae Special Appearance
The latest star to join the performance lineup is Monae, who, like Eilish, will be delivering an unknown “special performance.”
Randy Newman Performance
Newman will be performing his best original song nominee, “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away” from Toy Story 4.
Chrissy Metz Performance
The This Is Us actress will take the stage to perform the Oscar nominated ballad, “I’m Standing With You” from the Breakthrough soundtrack.
Best Song Winner
This past year was certainly filled to the brim with amazing songs in film. This year’s nominees include Diane Warren’s “I’m Standing With You,” Randy Newman’s “I Can’t Let You Throw Yourself Away,” Cynthia Erivo and Joshuah Campbell’s “Stand Up,” Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again,” and Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez’s “Into the Unknown.”
Best Score Winner
This year’s nominees include the scores for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, 1917, Joker, Little Women, and Marriage Story.
If Renee Zellweger wins best actress for Judy
Zellweger already snagged the best actress win at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and BAFTAs, so there’s a good chance she might add Oscars to the list. She’s up against Charlize Theron, Cynthia Erivo, Scarlett Johansson and Saoirse Ronan.
