The nominations were announced for the 2018 American Music Awards on Wednesday, and Drake and Cardi B lead the pack with eight nominations each. To announce the news, Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs, alongside Bebe Rexha, Normani, Ella Mai and Kane Brown, took part in a live stream from YouTube Space LA.
Ahead of the live stream, Billboard News host Tetris Kelly caught up with Normani and Rexha to chat about their charting songs, new music and more.
Asked how it feels to have had a top 10 hit with her Khalid collaboration “Love Lies,” Normani tells Billboard, “I can’t even believe it. For so long, I’ve been tracking the Hot 100 and it’s really crazy that I’m actually part of it.”
Speaking of her forthcoming album, the singer assures fans that it is “definitely” coming, while also hinting that there might “possibly” be a collaboration with Nicki Minaj on it.
“I love her so much,” she adds, “And she’s been nothing but supportive.”
Bebe Rexha, meanwhile, discusses her current fashion inspiration, noting that Blondie and grunge glamour are her current influences, while also opening up about the success of her song “I’m a Mess.”
“Now that I have ‘I’m a Mess’ charting, my first top 40 song, that’s fucking dope,” says the singer, who is nominated for two AMAs for her Florida Georgia Line collaboration “Meant to Be.”
“And my fans are supportive,” she adds, “And the movement, it feels so good.”
