Miley Cyrus is back like a wrecking ball! The star performed her new song “Midnight Sky” from her upcoming album She Is Miley Cyrus during the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 30).
Cyrus, who host Keke Palmer noted has had “so many iconic VMAs moments in the past decade,” kicked off her performance in a simple black and white silhouette, with the artist performing the song solo while dressed in a slinky black dress with a daringly high slit, and matching stilettos. As she sang, the simple set turned bright red and then blue.
When it went back to black and white, a simple staircase was revealed, with a giant disco ball at the top. As Cyrus reached the top of the stairs, she ripped off her outfit’s skirt to reveal her matching black bikini bottom, and climbed on to the disco ball to finish the song, a nod to the video for her 2013 hit “Wrecking Ball.”
