Shortly after Mike Posner learned about his 2017 Grammy nomination — his track “I Took a Pill In Ibiza” is up for song of the year — the singer-songwriter recorded a short video for Billboard‘s new Grammy video series. From his parents’ house in Detroit, Posner and his mom discuss learning he’d received his first Grammy nomination.
“First you were stuck in your bedroom, and there was like a lot of like, ‘Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!’” said Posner’s mom, as she brushes her hair in the background, adding, “You said, ‘I got nominated for a Grammy.’ I said, ‘No you did not.’”
“You said, ‘By who?’” said Posner. “And I said, ‘By the Grammys,’ and then you went, ‘Whoop!’ You did the same noise!”
But the Posner clan isn’t only rooting for him on Grammy night. “We’re rooting for one of my best friends! Co-wrote ‘Love Yourself’ by Justin Bieber,” said Posner, referring to songwriter Benjamin Levin — who is also a song of the year nominee. “Yeah, Benny used to let me sleep on his couch,” said Posner, later adding, “He still would let me sleep on his couch!”
