Country singer Luke Combs scored his first Grammy nomination Friday (Dec. 7) as one of 2019’s best new artists.
“I’m either sleeping or playing a show, so I never find out in really cool ways like everyone else, you know?” The “She Got the Best of Me” singer explained to Billboard how he found out about the Grammy nod. “I was playing Seattle last night and we actually landed in Wichita just now. But I was kind of asleep and I woke up from my phone going off…I had about 30 text messages.”
Combs, who recently took home the award for new artist of the year at the CMAs in November, shared that this nomination makes him feel “grateful, more than anything. ” He adds, “I’ve never been a guy that expects or feels like he deserves anything as far as that stuff goes. It’s just a very humbling thing.” He notes how important his team is and continues, “We’ve been working for a long time so it’s a big thing for me and my guys on the road and everybody behind the scenes. They’re the ones doing the leg work to make stuff like this happen.”
So how will the country star celebrate? The singer has been extremely busy performing and reveals, “I really don’t have much time! I’m playing in a couple of hours in Wichita. But I’m sure we’ll have a shot or something tonight.”
Combs has a sold-out tour coming up next year, including 28 shows and a Stagecoach performance. While the past year has been undoubtedly hectic for him, he notes, “I didn’t get into this business to not be busy, that’s for sure.” He sure isn’t ready to stop anytime soon as he finishes with, “Now we gotta plan our trip to LA!”
