After receiving backlash about the lack of female representation at the 2018 Grammys, organizers simply asked women to “step up” and be more active in the community.
One of the women who received the short end of the stick was Lorde, who was nominated for album of the year but was reportedly denied the chance to perform her own material at Sunday night’s show.
Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich addressed her absence from the stage, saying, “She had a great album, album of the year is a big honor, but there’s no way we can really deal with everybody. Sometimes people get left out that shouldn’t, but on the other hand, we did the best we can to make sure that it’s a representative and balanced show.”
The “Green Light” singer took to Twitter on Monday morning (Jan. 29) to address her lack of a performance, encouraging fans to attend her Melodrama World Tour. “IF YOU’RE DEBATING WHETHER OR NOT I CAN MURDER A STAGE… COME SEE IT FOR URSELF,” she tweeted, adding a link to tickets to her tour, which features Run the Jewels and Mitski.
