Lizzo is entering the stage of her superstardom where dominant awards show performances come off as second nature. Barely three weeks removed from her scintillating Grammys performance, Lizzo took the stage at the 2020 Brit Awards and delivered a four-song mega-mix dance party, equal parts playful and powerful.
After an introduction from host Jack Whitehall, Lizzo appeared onstage at London’s O2 arena belting the opening lines of “Cuz I Love You” atop a center-stage platform, her gown stretched from one end of set to the other. Once she wrapped the chorus of the heartfelt ballad, Lizzo busted out of the stately structure and rapped the iconic opening lines of “Truth Hurts,” her backing dancers getting into formation behind her. The No. 1 song hit hard, but her final two selections refused to be overshadowed. “Y’all ready to dance?” she yelled, segueing into her self-acceptance anthem “Good as Hell” with most of the crowd obliging. And finally, she capped the medley with a burst of her funk-pop hit “Juice,” squeezing every last bit of flair into the high-energy performance.
As for the awards side of the evening, Lizzo is up for international female solo artist. Her Brit Award nomination follows a strong showing at the 2020 Grammys, in which she was up for eight awards — more than anyone else — and took home three trophies.
