In already their second performance of the evening, country quartet Little Big Town brought a resonant performance of their recent single “The Daughters” to Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night (June 5) for the 2019 CMT Music Awards.
Debuted a few months earlier at the ACM Awards in a headline-capturing performance, the powerful song lost none of its emotional wallop in translating to the Nashville stage, as the group performed a less-is-more arrangement of the single under a large spinning globe.
Earlier in the evening, Little Big Town performed alongside Thomas Rhett and Trombone Shorty on a rendition of Rhett’s recent Center Point Road highlight “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time” — and, of course, they are also serving as the awards’ hosts for the second year in a row. The quartet was also nominated for group video of the year, for their “Summer Fever” single, but lost to Zac Brown Band for “Someone I Used to Know.”
