The focus at the Billboard Music Awards is on the hottest contemporary stars, but five legendary veterans also landed nominations this year. All began their illustrious careers before 1980.
The late Aretha Franklin is nominated for top gospel album for her 1999 live album, Gospel Greats. Franklin died on Aug. 16.
Queen is nominated for two awards: top rock artist and top soundtrack for Bohemian Rhapsody. The film of the same name won four Oscars, more than any other film at the 91st annual Academy Awards.
Rock legends Elton John, The Rolling Stones and U2 are the nominees for top rock tour.
Franklin is the most senior member of this exclusive club, having released her first studio album in 1961. U2 is the most recent arrival. Their first EP, Three, was released in Ireland in 1979.
