Four of the brightest pop breakout acts of 2018 — pop singer-songwriter Lauv, dance producer/DJ Marshmello, rock outfit Lovelytheband and R&B hitmaker Ella Mai — combined at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards to run through abbreviated versions of their respective hit singles.
The medley began with Lauv singing a few bars of his recent Troye Sivan collab “I’m So Tired,” before filling in for Dan Smith of Bastille on a version of Marshmello’s smash “Happier,” with the masked producer helping out on piano. The camera then panned over to Lovelytheband, who went on to perform their top 40 hit “Broken,” before Ella Mai closed the mini-set with a verse and chorus of her second hit “Trip.”
All four of the performers were nominees on the evening in one of the awards’ best new artist trophies. Lauv and Marshmello were both up for best new pop artist, with the former winning, while Loveytheband took home best new rock/alternative artist and Ella Mai was named best new R&B artist.
