Khalid caught up with Billboard’s Chelsea Briggs on the red carpet at the 2018 American Music Awards on Tuesday (Oct. 9), chatting about working with Normani, what fans can expect from his new album and who he would love to collaborate with one day.
Speaking of the success of his Normani collaboration “Love Lies,” Khalid tells Billboard, “For me, it just says that the song is authentic, it’s real, it’s just everything that you hear in the song is the relationship that I share with Normani and it’s just great. She’s so amazing, she’s so beautiful and she’s an amazing friend.”
Asked if he plans to work with Normani again in the future, the singer says that he does hope that they cross paths musically again.
Khalid also chats about his new album, which is currently in the works, while also revealing that he might release something before the album. “I’ve just been working so hard to try to just make music that really emulated what’s inside of me,” he explains, “And I’ve really been taking risks, so hopefully the risks pay off.”
He reveals that starting on his second album, he did feel the pressure that came with his debut album American Teen, but notes that it is a “beautiful pressure,” adding “Honestly, it just sparked me up to even go harder.”
As for who he would love to collaborate with, Khalid excitedly reacts when prompted with the suggestion of Drake by Briggs, responding, “Oh, Drake would be really fire. Drake’s amazing. He’s so nice. I actually met him last year, so hopefully we get to do something sometime soon.”
