In the latest of the Grammys’ long line of left-field collaborations, Lukas Graham and Kelsea Ballerini got together to combine two of their best-known songs at the 2017 show in Los Angeles.
Following an introduction from Ryan Seacrest, Ballerini took the stage to sing the opening lines of her country hit “Peter Pan.” But just before the chorus kicked in — surprise! — Lukas Graham frontman Lukas Forchhammer emerged and busted into his own “7 Years.” The two traded choruses and verses, melding the two radio hits together for an interesting pop-country cocktail.
Ballerini had just lost the best new artist prize to Chance the Rapper a few minutes earlier, but that little bump wasn’t about to get her down. On the other hand, Lukas performed with an eventful night to come; “7 Years” is nominated for both record of the year and song of the year, with the results ahead later in the show.
