Radio Disney has officially announced five fan-favorite stars to host its 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards: Grammy-nominated country singer Kelsea Ballerini, Hamilton star Jordan Fisher, Descendants actress Sofia Carson, Radio Disney host and singer Alex Aiono, and Stuck in the Middle star Jenna Ortega are scheduled to host the fifth annual event.
Fans from around the world will vote to determine who gets to take home a Radio Disney “ARDY” statuette. Last year, a record 238 million votes were cast. This year’s lineup includes stars that span music, TV and theater.
Twenty-three-year old country singer Ballerini was a Radio Disney Next Big Thing featured artist in 2016. She performed with Daya at the 2016 RDMAs and won the award for The Freshest – Best New Artist. This year, she is nominated for best new artist at the Grammy Awards.
Fisher caught the public’s eye as Doody on Fox’s Grease: Live and Seacat in the Teen Beach Movie franchise. In November, he joined the award-winning cast of Hamilton on Broadway. Like Ballerini, Fisher was a Radio Disney NBT alum. Most recently, he sang “You’re Welcome” with Lin-Manuel Miranda on the soundtrack of Moana.
Carson, another NBT honoree, stars in the hit Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants and is signed to Hollywood Records and Republic Records. As a follow-up to her hit 2016 single “Love Is the Name,” her second song, “Back to Beautiful,” is scheduled for release this Friday.
Popular musician and online personality Aiono has plenty of experience in the Radio Disney family. He has been the host of the Radio Disney Insider since March 2016 and was the red carpet and backstage correspondent for last year’s RDMAs. His YouTube videos garner millions of views, with more than 4 million subscribers to his channel. He just recently signed to Interscope Records and his first single, “Work the Middle,” drops this Friday.
Fourteen-year old Ortega is best known to Disney Channel audiences as Harley Diaz on the comedy series Stuck in the Middle and as the voice of Princess Isabel on Elena of Avalor. She is also recognized for her role in the Golden Globe award-winning series Jane the Virgin.
The star-studded RDMAs will take place Saturday, April 29, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and the show will air the following day, April 30, at 7 p.m. ET.
