Kelly Rowland‘s stylist Ade Samuel had nothing but kind words to share about the singer, and their familiarity with each other only went to support her strong style choices for the 2017 AMAs red carpet. Working with Kelly Rowland is amazing,” Samuel said. “She’s the most genuine, so amazing, so sweet. She’s so creative.”
Samuel explained that it was a collaborative effort with Rowland to tell a specific aesthetic narrative. “What I love about her,” Samuel continued, “is that she does have input. With all my clients, specifically to the AMAs, we have a collective idea of what kind of silhouette we may want to do for the carpet, or we discuss kind of color arrangements and with Kelly we cohesively kind of talk about ideas from hair to makeup to the gown. We work together a lot to create the story she wants to tell through clothing.”
For the AMAs, Rowland rocked a gorgeous Galia Lahav velvet gown, paired with Jimmy Choo shoes, a choice that depicted “something different” to Samuel. “When I think of red carpet for my clients, specifically for Kelly Rowland, I usually like to look at the story they’ve been telling the whole year. From color, to silhouette, and things of that nature.”
The colorful beading and mesh inserts added a bit of fun to an otherwise formal affair, as Samuel described, “You can have a little bit more fun but it’s still a formal event where people are expected to look very glamour, and that’s what we decided to do today.” The mesh, Samuel also added, helps to cool down an otherwise warm outfit for the season.
“What I loved about it, and the reason I went towards this, is because it’s fall. Even though we’re in LA and the awards are in LA, we’re still discussing what’s fashion. Right now, velvet for the fall is one of the biggest trends and being able to kind of show that trend through the red carpet is an idea that I definitely wanted to see go forward with Kelly.”
Samuel made sure to add the most obvious reason for choosing this garment as well: “The dress looked amazing on her.” She continued, “It’s very sexy on the top, it has a sheer billowy arm, and a slit. Always amazing to have a nice slit, especially when you’re wearing velvet. The juxtaposition of the dress is the reason we went for it.”
