Clarkson, who is a self-proclaimed “gigantic, stage 5 clinger fan” of P!nk’s told Billboard that performance was important not only for the people to whom they were paying tribute, but for all female singers. “In a time where I feel like — well not just now — but females are always pitted against each other, it’s cool. We both respect each other’s talent, there’s room for everyone. It’s a nice moment to say that.”
The singer also had some advice for the new American Idol hopefuls that will be making their way onto the reboot of the TV talent show that launched her career. “You need to do something that makes you stand out,” she says. “I feel like a lot of the time, people in these competitions try to be somebody else and that’s just not going to work because we already have that person. Just be authentic and honest and it’ll work in your favor.”
